This is a program of chamber and folk music from the Austro-Hungarian court of Nicolaus the Magnificent, including Hungarian and Transylvanian 'Romani' gypsy band musics by Bihari, Csermak and Ruzitska along with Classical appropriations of 'gypsy' music by Haydn, Hummel and Doppler. The program features two trios by Haydn for fortepiano, flute/violin, and violoncello, including the famous "Rondo Zingarese" (Rondo in the Gypsie's style). Also, arrangements of Gypsy Band music by Bihari, Csermak and Ruzitska, as arranged by Lux Musica are performed along with solo works for fortepiano by Hummel, and solo flute music by Doppler, based on Gypsy themes.
Solo and ensemble works from the Court of Leopold of Anhalt-Cöthen. From 1717-1723, J.S. Bach enjoyed composing virtuoso chamber music for a Princely ensemble. This program features trios wholly or partly by Bach, as well as works for solo flute, violin or viola da gamba with obbligato or contunio accompaniment.
